The city of Naples is famous for a lot of things, but the thing most people think of is probably pizza. The first ever Margherita is said to have been served at Brandi and Anthony Bourdain visited Pizzeria Pellone in 2011.
I spent the weekend in Copenhagen, enduring cold weather and rain showers to explore a lot of Christmas markets littered around the city.
This weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Travel Slideshow Tour by Henry Rollins. The venue was DR Koncerthuset, a nice building in the Ørestad area of Copenhagen.
The old town of Tallinn is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe. It felt good to be back and wander along the cobbled streets once more.
There is a sleepy town called Šiauliai in western Lithuania. Just north of it, a strange sight can be seen. A small hill is filled to the brim with hundreds of thousands of crosses. This is the infamous Kryžiu Kalnas, or simply Hill of Crosses.
There are several bars related to Depeche Mode around the globe. The Depeche Mode Baar in Tallinn is probably one of the better known, together with the bars in Saint Petersburg and Moscow. But the one in the capital of Latvia is not to be missed!
What better way to enjoy the autumn days of September than to make a tour across the Baltic states. First stop is Riga and it feels good to be back, a decade later.
I was a bit surprised to discover that a new season of Parts Unknown will start this weekend. Since, you know, the leading man Anthony Bourdain is unfortunately not with us anymore.
So here we are again at Way Out West. For each year I’m starting to feel more like the old men Statler and Waldorf in The Muppet Show. I’m getting older and the bands booked are getting a bit less interesting.
