Mission Impossible 6 Fallout (2018)
Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is being followed by Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson) past the plaque honoring playwright Molière…
…before he goes west into the colonnade.
Not surprisingly, she founds him in the garden of Palais Royal…
…where they have a clandestine meeting beneath the trees.
Ethan have another secret meeting with White Widow (Vanessa Kirby) on the passageway along the quai near Notre Dame.
After their truck gets stuck at Rue de Nevers, allegedly the narrowest street in Paris, Ethan and Walker (Henry Cavill) get on their motorbikes which just happens to be parked at the right spot.
Walker walks in slow motion into Tate Modern, while Hunt runs at light speed all across London.
Tenet (2020)
The first scene of Christopher Nolan’s time-busting movie features Linnahall, a concert hall in the harbour of Tallinn, posing as the Kiev Opera House.
But soon they are off to Oslo, as Robert Pattinson and John David Washington walk down Tjuvholmen Allé…
…and have a chat on the roof of the Opera House.
John Wick 3 (2019)
John Wick (Keanu Reeves) leaves New York city for Morocco. Even though he goes to “Casablanca”, the scenes are actually from the port city of Essaouira.
He casually walks down the bazaar while everyone is staring at him. Kind of how I felt walking there too.
Naturally, it doesn’t take long before he is back in the Big Apple, busy killing people in front of the clock in Grand Central Station.
John Wick 4 (2023)
John Wick (Keanu Reeves) goes on a gory rampage of “gun fu” all across Paris. In a rare moment of tranquility, he enters the church Saint-Eustache to have a chat with Caine (Donnie Yen)…
…before causing mayhem in familiar places, such as the long stairs at Rue Foyatier.
The Italian Job (1969)
The Italian Job is without a doubt the most famous movie to be shot in Turin, and well-known over all of northern Italy. The scene everybody knows is the car chase with the small Fiat Dino Coupes, built at the Fiat factory in Turin. It all starts with the vehicle swap inside the Palazzo Carignano…
…where Michael Caine and his merry band gets behind the wheel of the three Fiat cars…
…which are driven down the stairs of the Galleria Subalpina…
…before exiting the galleria with a sharp turn onto Piazzo Castello…
…where they finally drive south in the elegant arcade alongside Piazza San Carlo. This is where the famous “chicken grab” scene takes place, which has been re-enacted many times (most recently by chef Gino D’Acampo as he visited Turin during his Italian Express show from 2019).
The Italian Job (2003)
In this remake, inferior to the suave original, Donald Sutherland and Marky Mark Wahlberg discuss business in Venice. They start in front of the two columns at Piazza San Marco…
…before continue walking along the Molo quay.
3 Days to Kill (2014)
Ethan (Kevin Costner) is determined to make his daughter Zooey (Hailee Steinfeld) enjoy his bike present. He starts by carrying her bike along Rue de l’Abreuvoir, one of the most photogenic streets in Paris.
He slowly discovers that there are other things in life to take care of as well….
…such as sharing a sunrise over Saint-Germain-l’Auxerrois from a (normally closed) gate in the Louvre.
A Room with a View (1985)
A Room with a View is a romantic comedy from 1985, with several scenes from Florence. Lucy Honeychurch (Helena Bonham-Carter) is touring Italy and walks across the Piazza della Signoria, in front of Palazzo Vecchio.
She passes the 14th-century Loggia dei Lanzi, featuring statues such as Perseus.
The Tourist (2010)
It all starts with Elise (Angelina Jolie) having breakfast at Le Nemours in central Paris…
…before leaving after receiving a mysterious envelope….
…and walking down the stairs in Passage Jouffroy.
A clueless Frank (Johnny Depp) arrives at the St Lucia train station in Venice…
…and later shows up at the Piazza San Marco.
Spartacus (1960)
The original Spartacus movie with Kirk Douglas is one of the classic “sand and sandals” spectacles from the golden age of Hollywood. The Hearst Castle in Californian village San Simeon was transformed into the villa of Crassus. The legendary Laurence Olivier stars as the wealthy Roman, walking by the Neptune Pool built by William Randolph Hearst in the 1920s….
…before proceeding up the ornate stairs to the main house.
Everyone Says I Love You (1996)
Woody Allen and Goldie Hawn walks down the stairs from Pont de la Tournelle to the quay…
…where they perform the infamous gravity-defying dance scene.
Excalibur (1981)
This classic fantasy tale by John Boorman has a lot of scenes from Cahir Castle in southern Ireland. The walls of the castle were stormed by the knights and Arthur himself was knighted while kneeling in the cold moat. Cahir Castle has been the location for several movies, such as Stanley Kubrick’s 1975 drama Barry Lyndon. It was also featured as Camelot in The Green Knight (2019), as well as the Ridley Scott movie The Last Duel (2020).
Carlito’s Way (1993)
Another movie with several New York locations is Carlito’s Way, where Brian De Palma tried to repeat his success with Scarface and do a sort of spiritual successor. This means that we have a lot of scenes where Al Pacino is involved in shootouts, such as the dramatic scene in the escalator of Grand Central Station.
Ronin (1998)
The movie starts with Robert De Niro walking down the long stairs at Rue Drevet in Montmartre, before meeting the crew inside the bar on the corner. The building has been demolished and the interior was all in a studio, but it’s a nice scene.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
In the emotional intro scene, the digitally aged character of Matt Damon walks across the endless fields of white crosses in the American cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. This is located close to the Omaha beach and other places where the action took place during Operation Overlord in 1945.
The International (2009)
Clive Owen steps into the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum on Fifth Avenue, instantly recognized from the architecture, before having an extended gunfight along the ramparts.
Once (2006)
The merry couple meet up with some buskers next to the Phil Lynott statue on Harry street, next to the busy Grafton street.
Ghostbusters 2 (1989)
Just as the first Ghostbusters movie, the lacklustre sequel is filmed in New York city. The museum where it all happens is the National Museum of the American Indian, located in the old U.S. Custom House.
Zulu (2013)
The movie starts with Ali Sokhela (Forest Whitaker) having to hike uphill in Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden to investigate a murder.
The Quiet Man (1952)
In the middle of nowhere in the countryside of westernmost Ireland, this old bridge can be found. This is were John Wayne got off his wagon about 70 years ago.
