Das Boot to Tallinn

As our ship was leaving the port in Stockholm, we were getting ready for a weekend with Das Boot. This is an annual sort of festival, where the ship goes from to Stockholm to various places. This year the journey was going across the Baltic Sea to Tallinn.

As I observed the ice sheets on the surface, I was glad that the Das Boot festival was not taking place on a real submarine. Named after the infamous 1981 film based on a novel by Buchheim, I suppose the arrangers wanted to instil an idea of German industrial maritime transport, rather than the terror that took place about the U-96.

Life onboard turned out to be anything other than terror. The main event was of course the live gigs by all sorts of electronic bands. I had a look at VNV Nation, Spetsnaz, Infected Mushroom, Spark, SPOCK, Autodafeh, Aesthetic Perfection, Project Rotten, Kopfer Kat and more bands.

Infected Mushroom was of course the odd one on that list, but the audience seemed to really like the Israeli duo and their psytrance. The rest of the bands were a nice blend of EBM, aggrotech, futurepop and whatever you want to call it.
