The year in cities
There are few things that inspire me more than large cities, sprawling with buildings in all directions. This year I’ve seen a fair share of them. Tokyo, Marrakesh, Ulaanbaatar, Novosibirsk, Seoul, Amsterdam, Beijing, Inverness, Irkutsk, Kyoto, Moscow and many more.

Best concerts of 2008
I tend to visit a lot of live concerts, since most bands manage to create something special on stage that make them come alive, in a way never achieved by the flat compact discs. Here are some of my favorite concerts during 2008.

Immersive movie experiences
I read a newspaper article today which featured a swimming hall that had showed the classic Jaws movie on a big screen, proudly announced that they will show Piranha next. They even seemed to get visitors for this event!

Relocated VPP folders in EPiServer R2
One of the new features in EPiServer R2 version is the relocation of system folders. In previous versions they were stored in the same folder as the other site related files, but now they seem to be installed in Program Files by the new Installation Manager.

Azure revealed at PDC08 in Los Angeles
PDC08 kicked off today in Los Angeles with the expected keynote by Ray Ozzie. He presented Azure, a web service platform hosted in data centers all over the world. It will host web applications in “the cloud”, supposedly the best thing since sliced bread if we are to believe Ozzie.

From Gothenburg to Tokyo by train
Going from Gothenburg to Tokyo by train is one of the longest routes available, as it spans across nine time zones and seven countries. The largest part of the journey is the Trans-Siberian railway from Moscow to the Pacific, the world’s longest railway with 9238 kilometers.

Being Godzilla in Tokyo
I walked alone in the streets of Tokyo, like a benign Godzilla without the sharp teeth. Everywhere I went, people stopped in their tracks and stared at the six-foot-five gaijin. I did a “smile and wave” like the mad penguins in Madagascar movie, and started humming on the song “Big in Japan” by Alphaville.

Alone in Kyoto
Kyoto isn’t Tokyo. It whispers softly and lures you in with the rustle of bamboo and the silence between footsteps. It doesn’t fight to get your attention. You will listen anyway.

The gate of Hiroshima
The name of Hiroshima will forever be connected to the horrible event in 1945. On August 6, the first nuclear bomb to be used against mankind detonated 580 meters above the city, killing hundreds of thousands of people.

A day of war in Seoul
Seoul is a city of contradictions. Hypermodern and ancient. Bubble tea and barbed wire. It’s a city that rebuilt itself from ash and artillery, where the past isn’t a distant echo but a constant hum in your ear.
