Tales of Algarve
So I’m back in Portugal. Way down in the south region of Algarve, to be exact. The town of Faro is kind of sleepy, but since this is my fourth country visited in the last five days, I could use some rest.

The Portuguese town of Sintra is famous for many beautiful castles. Palácio Nacional da Pena is arguably the most stunning of the lot. It stands proudly on a hilltop in the mountains above Sintra.
On my travels, I’ve come across several places that have named themselves the end of Europe. But none feels more justified than Cabo da Roca.
It’s currently a scorching 30 degrees in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. We’ve been trying to escape the heat by all means necessary.
Today I’m in Porto, the birthplace of port wine in northern Portugal. The Alto Douro wine country is the oldest demarcated wine region on the planet and even the Romans made wine on the banks of the Douro river.
In Portugal, the sea has always been close. The country was once a nation of great seafarers and the city of Porto has been an important port since Roman times. Today, things are different.
