After a tedious train ride to Esztergom we had finally reached the river Danube, separating Hungary from Slovakia. Over a thousand years ago, this was the capital of Hungary.
It has been almost a decade since my last visit to Budapest. Back then, ruin bars weren’t as much mainstream as they are today. The first of them, Szimpla Kert, opened up way back in 2002 but it really took off in later years.
Since Sweden has had the coldest December month in 110 years, I hoped it would be at least a bit warmer in central Europe. But the streets of Hungary’s capital are absolutely freezing.
