Review: Marco Polo Didn’t Go There

Rolf Potts is perhaps best known for his classic book “Vagabonding”, detailing how to get ready for long-term travel. But “Marco Polo Didn’t Go There” from 2008 is a fine collection of travel stories with an unusual twist, since each chapter has ending notes which describes the circumstances surrounding that particular story. This is a great concept and feels like the director’s commentary track on DVDs.

Review: Shantaram

Shantaram was one of the most hyped books a few years back. It tells the tale of former bank robber Gregory David Roberts, who escapes from a high-security prison in Australia. After a while he arrives in Mumbai and fall in love with the city. The whopping 900 pages initially describes his early encounters with the locals at infamous bar Leopold and how he fall in love with a mysterious woman at first sight.
