There’s something ridiculous about stepping onto a train in Gothenburg with nothing but a backpack and the vague ambition to end up in Tokyo. Nine time zones. Seven countries. Endless buckets of hot coffee.
Being Godzilla in Tokyo
I walk alone through the streets of Tokyo, like a benign Godzilla without the sharp teeth. Everywhere I go, people stop in their tracks to stare at the six-foot-five gaijin. I do a “smile and wave” like the penguins in Madagascar movie, and start humming on the song “Big in Japan” by Alphaville.
Realistic subway maps
Subway maps are usually meant as a visual guide to the system and not by any means an accurate map of the real city. What seems close on a tube map could very likely be a large distance in the real world.
