A decade of responsive design

Time flies and suddenly ten years have passed since Ethan Marcotte coined the term “responsive design” in his now classic article.

I first wrote about responsive design in 2011. At the @media conference in London a few months earlier, media queries were mentioned but not frequently.

However, it didn’t take long before responsive design became another given tool in every developer’s toolbox. This all sounds so alien today, but remember that back then the mobile browsing just had about 8% of the market and smartphones were just picking up speed.
