As I was strolling along the pier Dlugie pobrzeze next to the Motlawa river, I was admiring the Hanseatic buildings of Gdansk. These majestic facades of brick and mortar have sheltered the inhabitants for centuries. Or have they?

I didn’t expect to be back in Krakow four months later, but here I am. The city was already beautiful in spring but it’s absolutely gorgeous in summertime as well.
During my travels I’ve seen a lot of statues depicting dragons. Saint Georg and the dragon is a popular motif all over Europe. I especially liked the dragons of Ljubljana, where I crossed the Dragon bridge and saw the city emblem feature a dragon. But Krakow is probably the only place I know where you can actually visit a dragon den.
I’m writing this at a window some hundred meters above the streets of Warsaw, the capital of Poland. Staying at the five-star hotel InterContinental Warsaw which offers a good view of the city. Even though it’s only the 55th tallest building in Europe, it’s the tallest hotel in Poland and the third tallest in Europe.
