After fortifying ourselves with a kebab at the legendary Mem o Zin in Karlskoga, it felt like we were ready for whatever the evening decided to throw at us. It was a short drive to Örebro and Club Satin, where Stefan Nilsson was hosting his annual birthday celebration, appropriately titled Monsters of Zynth.
Colony 5 doing their thing.
As one half of Spetsnaz, Stefan is usually the one standing under the spotlights. This time he took a step back and let a few friends provide the soundtrack instead. The lineup featured Colony 5, Backlash and Proceed, delivering exactly the kind of electronic pulse you’d hope for on a night like this. The atmosphere was less formal concert and more oversized birthday party for people who happen to own an alarming number of black T-shirts.
Club Satin.
Eventually Stefan’s DJ duties came to an abrupt end when he was pulled from behind the decks and onto the stage. The crowd broke into a heartfelt rendition of “Happy Birthday,” while a sea of Devo hats suddenly appeared as if this had all been meticulously planned from the beginning.
Some birthdays are celebrated with cake. Others with EBM and synthpop. I know which one I’d choose.
