The beautiful scenery of New Zealand became an instant tourist magnet as soon as the first Lord of the Rings movie was released in 2001. People from all over the world flock to see the places were Peter Jackson recreated Middle Earth.
I’m currently in Wellington, New Zealand. At latitude 41°S, it’s the southernmost national capital city in the world. This is about as far south as you can be without hiking through Patagonia.
