There are many gems to discover in the Gothenburg archipelago. At the very south, the island of Valö can be found.

The first lighthouse on the island was built in 1878. The lighthouse was manually operated until 1932, which probably came as a relief for the guardians as the darkest period of the year required a 17-hour workday to keep the operations running.
