Theodosian Wall

Brick in the wall

The city wall of Constantinople once surrounded the capital of Eastern Rome. The largest part of the wall stretched for over six kilometers between the Sea of Marmara and the Golden Horn. The defence was weakened by the Fourth Crusade sacking in 1204 until the cannons of Mehmed II finally broke through the mighty walls in 1453, marking the end of the Roman Empire.
